PANJIM: The State on Wednesday began COVID-19 testing for around 5,000 people, having influenza like illness (ILI) symptoms, who were identified during the recently held house-to-house survey.

Health Secretary Nila Mohanan informed State Executive Committee (SEC) that the prioritised testing for the cases with ILI symptoms has started from April 22, based on the report submitted by Dr Jagadish Cacodcar committee after the analysis of the House-to-House survey.
The committee has identified around 5,000 cases having ILI symptoms, tests for which are been undertaken in a phased manner as per the testing protocol of the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare.
Mohanan further informed that the Government of India has appreciated the State for being the first to train and utilize the services of the Ayush doctors for the Covid related duties.
Secretary informed theSEC that the Health dept is taking preventive steps to screen those persons who enter Goa without due authorization. Also, the State is in the process of getting additional 1,000 thermal guns that would be transported from Delhi to Goa by a special flight. SEC noted with caution that Goa had not yet faced any community transmission.
On the health front, SEC also clarified that dental clinics will not be permitted at present; however, in cases of emergency, the person could visit the Government Dental College.
The SEC noted that many of the ongoing works of various departments have restarted. As per the information provided, 34 out of 54 works of PWD, 3 out of 7 works of Electricity, 18 out of 47 works of WRD, 4 out of 9 works of GSUDA, and 49 out of 197 works of GSIDC have started. The SEC advised caution and strict adherence of the MHA’s guidelines.
Further, SEC has allowed Collector North to grant permission to Natural Gas (P) Ltd., a Joint Venture of GAIL Gas Limited (GGL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to carry out the work relating to City Gas Distribution Network. However, they have been asked to utilise the staff available within the State.
