VALPOI: Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) Chairperson Ramdas Shirodkar said the Valpoi Municipal ground will soon get a facelift with all the modern sporting facilities when the renovation work of the ground is undertaken.
Speaking to Herald, Shirodkar said VMC will soon hand over the ground to the consultant, who already presented his tentative proposed plan. “I am sure we will get the nod from the State government to commence the work,” he added.
According to Shirodkar, the Rs 1.8 crore project will be implemented under the Fair Recreational Activities and Non-competitive Involvement in Sports (FRANCIS) 2014 urban connect scheme of assistance for the use of urban space for recreation and sports, under Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA). The VMC ground will be renovated with facilities to promote sports in Valpoi.
“We are aware of the deplorable state of VMC ground and the long-pending demand of sports enthusiasts will be resolved and once renovation is completed, the ground will be ready to host sports activities,” he added.
He further said the golden jubilee fund allocated to VMC is diverted to upgrade the crematoriums and kabrastans in Valpoi Municipal area.
