Navnath Ganesh Naik and Chitra Pratap Phadte are the lone nominations filed for the posts of South ZP chairperson and the vice-chairperson.
Their election results are likely to be announced on Tuesday.
For South Goa, Chandrakant Shetkar (deputy director of panchayats, south Goa) sent the communiqué about the nomination to the chief executive officer, South Goa Zilla Panchayat.
It may be recalled that the BJP alliance won 25 seats, while
independents won 24 seats in the Zilla Panchayat polls in the North and South Goa ZP polls giving a big surprise to the ruling BJP alliance.
The government had given its nod to conduct Zilla Panchayat elections for 50 ZP constituencies – 25 in each of the two districts – on March 15, 2015 on party lines, as the five-year tenure of the North and South Goa Zilla Panchayats ended in March this year. The last elections were held on March 8, 2010.
The State cabinet had added Ponda taluka to South Goa district to have an equal number of 25 wards each in the North and South Goa ZPs.
