PANJIM: Goa government has urged Union Finance Ministry to provide funding for the Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) on 90:10 ratio, in lines with the benefits granted to the North-Eastern states.
State Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and requested that Goa should be looked as a special case. “Goa is a small State and we should get the benefit of centrally sponsored schemes on 90:10 ratio as granted to North-Eastern states,” he said.

As per 90:10 funding pattern, 90 percent of the total expenditure is borne by the central government and 10 percent contributed by the State concerned. In North-Eastern States, for core CSS schemes, the ratio maintained is 90:10 while for non-core scheme it is 80:20.
Further, Godinho has requested for additional financial support to create infrastructure to meet the demand. He informed Ministry that Goa has a population of 15 lakh and it caters to around 70 lakh tourists, the number which will go over one crore in coming days.
State has sought funding for road and sewerage infrastructure.
Godinho has also requested the Union Minister to grant tax holiday to State’s entertainment industry being a “green industry”.
