MARGAO: The transport of ore from the mines is expected to commence soon following an end to the confusion over the transport rates. The truck owners and transporters made a beeline for the offices of the mining companies to get their trucks registered to commence transport.
The drivers of various trucks who had gone back to their villages have been called back and the truck drivers were seen getting themselves registered at the Codli, Dabal and Sesa Goa office.
Even after having the consent for the operation of the mines, several mine owners and lessees have not begun extraction due to the absence of demand for ore from Goa in the international market. Several truck owners have not received any business.
In addition to that there has not been a major increase in the rate for transportation which has angered transporters. As a result the transport of ore which was scheduled to begin after Chaturthi did not begin even after Diwali this year.
The South Goa Truck Owners Association made a representation to the Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral and requested him to request Sesa Goa to accommodate the trucks and there has been a positive reply from the company.
