MARGAO: St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, won the Goa University’s inter-collegiate cycling men’s championship 2024-25, organised by Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, under the aegis of Goa University, at Navelim.
Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim got the runners up position and third place was won by Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem. The championship was attended by colleges across Goa with 55 participants taking part in the cycling race covering a 35 kilometre course.
In individual category all podium finishers were from St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim namely Dishant Kankonkar (00:55:50.00); Umesh Gani (00:56:10.00) and Shubham
Gauns (01:01:34.00) secured first, second and third places respectively.
The chief guest of the valedictory function was Rajendra Prabhudessai, deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic Cell, South Goa and guest of honour prof Helic Barreto, principal, Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim along with Dr Francis Lobo, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim; Balachandra B Jadar, Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University; Dr Manoj Hede, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, VVM’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao; Dr Avertano Barretto, former College Director of Physical Education, Don Bosco College of Engineering and Avidh A Morajkar, Assistant Sports Officer, Goa University graced the occasion and presented medals and trophies to the winners.
