NAVELIM: United Club of Telaulim defeated Goa Velha Sports Club 2-1 in the GFA First Division League, played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Tuesday.
In the second minute, Telaulim winger Agnelo Colaco connected a ball to striker Clinton Niasso inside Goa Velha box, whose goal bound shot took a deflection of Goa Velha defender Jayganesh Goltekar, which was easily collected by the rival keeper.
A low strike by Goa Velha striker Newton Pereira was saved by Telaulim keeper Ozen Silva in the tenth minute.
Telaulim broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Premson Fernandes played Agnelo Colaco through, and the latter’s shot left the rival keeper unmoved.
Minutes later, Telaulim had the best opportunity to double the account but Goa Velha defender Joseph Rodrigues’ timely tackle on Clinton inside the box kept the North Goa side in the game.
Goa Velha took control of the game in the second quarter and had their chance to restore parity in the 28th minute when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. But scoring against former Sesa graduate was always difficult as the Velim lad Ozen—tipped as future star –brilliantly saved Nestor Dias’ curling free-kick.
At the other end, yet another chance went abegging for Telaulim, when Agnelo Colaco’s header was pushed away to safety by the rival keeper in the 39th minute.
The South Goa team doubled the lead in the 41st minute through Clinton Niasso, who gave his team a two-goal cushion at the break.
Crossing ends, Goa Velha came back strongly and pulled one goal back in the 46th minute when Nestor Dias set Franky Cabral in the box, and the lad brilliantly headed the ball past Ozen Silva.
The goal breathed life in Goa Velha hunt for the equaliser as the team attacked in need of the goal.
Goa Velha’s Chandan Gawas’ effort kissed the crossbar and went out of play in the 58th minute. The score remained 2-1 till the final whistle.
At Curtorim ground, Penha de Franca SC defeated Curtorim Gymkhana
2-1.
Rajiv Padosi scored the match-winner for Penha de Franca in the 74th minute after Curtorim’s Ryan Furtardo equalised Princeton Rebello’s early lead.
