PANJIM: Children of freedom fighters on Monday staged protest at the Azad Maidan, Panjim in protest against the government’s failure to provide jobs to them.

It was a sorry state to see freedom fighters children protesting at Azad Maidan on Liberation Day. They said that the government had assured them to provide jobs within stipulated period but till date nothing had been done.
The protestors said that last year, the veteran freedom fighters had joined the hunger strike demanding jobs to their children. It was then the BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade met them and requested them to call off their strike assuring them that the government had decided to provide jobs to them.
They further said that at that time they had submitted a list of 26 unregistered children of freedom fighters but nothing was done to provide jobs to them. The children of freedom fighters have been struggling since 2018 to seek jobs after the government formulated the scheme.
In December last year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant while distributing 60 orders of government jobs to children of freedom fighters, had informed that a list of 160 candidates is still
pending and from this the government will provide more 15 orders of government jobs to the beneficiaries soon and remaining 140 beneficiaries will also get the orders in next six months. But till date no government job was provided to these beneficiaries, they said.
The Goa Congress President Amit Patkar met he protestors and assured them that the party will take up their matter in the ensuring Assembly session.
He alleged that the BJP government is humiliating families of freedom fighters by compelling them to protest against non-fulfillment of promise of providing jobs to their children.
