SANGUEM: While most of the candidates who allegedly claimed to be BJP supporters suffered a defeat in Sanguem, the Sanguem MLA Mr Prasad Gaonkar claims to have majority support from elected panchayat members of six panchayats which includes Molcornem his home panchayat.
Gaonkar said majority candidates from village panchayats of Kalay, Uguem, Rivona, Bhati, Curdi Wadem and Molcornem have already confirmed their support to him and will rally behind him in the next five years.
70-year-old Anand Naik was the surprise winner in the Sanvordem panchayat elections. Naik, who is an ardent supporter of the Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pauskar, got elected from Ward No. 2 by a margin of 76 votes. Naik polled 270 votes against his nearest rival Ulhas Bhandari who got 194.
