Mahadev, Gayatri, Paree, Gajanan run to glory

PANJIM: Mahadev A Sinari and Gayatri R Pednekar, students of Mushtifund Middle School, Mala, bagged the first prize in the under-15 boys and under-15 girls categories respectively in 3rd mini-marathon race competition for school children organized by Panjim Football and Cultural Association in association with Goa Senior Journalists Association at SAG ground, Campal, here, Friday.
In the under-10 boys and girls categories, Gajanan M Shetkar (Mushtifund School) and Paree Parab (Rosary School, Mira Mar) secured the top spots respectively.
The winners were awarded Rs 3,000 each.
Akshay Kankonkar of Popular English High School and Bhavesh Naik of Mushtifund High School won the second and third prize respectively in the under-15 boys category. Rupa Chodankar of Mushtifund High School and Juan Mascarenhas won the second and third prize respectively in the under-15 girls category.
In the under-10 girls category, Ninoshka Fernandes, Aldona and Kanisha Viegas came second and third respectively. Ayaan Shaikh clinched the second prize while Yash Halarnkar won the third prize in the under-10 boys category.
The runners-up got Rs 2,000 each while the third place winners got Rs 1,000.
Earlier, Irshad Agha, District Judge and assistant Session Judge, Margao, flagged off the race. The participants covered a distance of 1.5km in the under-10 category, while a stretch of 3km was covered by the participants of the under-15 category.
C S Araujo, PFCA president, Satish Vernekar, secretary, P Shirodkar GSJA joint-secretary, Cyril D’Cunha, treasurer and Mathias Vaz, member distributed the prizes.
