Inferno engulfs SUV near Reis Magos Fort

PANJIM/MAPUSA: In the early hours of Saturday morning, a devastating fire reduced an MG Gloster SUV to ashes near Reis Magos Fort-Verem.  

Despite the swift response of the fire personnel team, the car could not be salvaged from the raging flames. The fire brigade’s valiant efforts were in vain as they arrived at the scene only to find the vehicle completely consumed by the fire.

The estimated loss stemming from the incident stands at around Rs 40 lakh. The ill-fated car, purchased merely a month ago according to its owner, fell victim to this unfortunate turn of events. Thankfully, no casualties were reported amidst the charred remains.

Krishna Parrikar, a fire officer, shared that the distress call had been received by the Pilerne fire station, which prompted their immediate response. The vehicle, identified as an MG Gloster SUV, was driven by tourists from Telangana who were visiting the State. 

As the probe delves into the cause of this destructive blaze, authorities are working to uncover the circumstances that led to the inferno.

In another incident at Sankwadi, Arpora, a house was badly damaged in a fire which broke out at around 5 am.  Officials said they received a call at around 5.24am, following which fire tenders from Pilerne and Mapusa rushed to the spot. Property, electronic and other household items worth Rs 4 lakh were destroyed in the  fire which is suspected to have been caused due to a short-circuit. 

Fire fighters managed to douse the fire from spreading to neighbouring houses in the crowded locality which has a number of prominent resorts.
