PANJIM: In yet another instance of providing a list of “late reported” COVID-19 deaths, the Directorate of Health Services reported another additional 94 COVID deaths, which took place between August 2020 and June 2021.

While the total number of cumulative deaths as on Wednesday was 3,388, on Thursday it jumped to 3,482 deaths. There were no deaths reported on Thursday.
The DHS officials said that the deaths were reported late and hence they were not released in the daily COVID bulletins. However, there have been multiple occasions now, where the DHS has reported a large number of “late reported deaths”.
This has been criticised by the opposition in the past as it does not present an accurate picture of how many deaths may have taken place per month during the period due to such late reported deaths.
For instance, the COVID death rate in the State saw its peak during the second wave that occurred during April and May 2021.
