MARGAO: The unseasonal rains have devastated farmers from Majorda who have said that other circumstances too have destroyed their crops, due to which they have suffered great losses.
This set of farmers who grow various vegetable crops in the fields of Pacheco vaddo in Majorda, said that the unexpected and unseasonal rains damaged their crops at a time when they were looking forward to what they thought would be a promising yield this season.
In addition to that, there was an issue with a field fire that caused further damage while pests and rodents were the final nail on the coffin as far as their crops are concerned, which are now destroyed, the farmers said.
When asked if they have received any support from the government, they said they haven’t received any compensation from the government for crop damage not just for this season but the last three seasons. They further added that the situation is such that they have stopped approaching the agriculture department or other authorities for help as they don’t feel they will get any kind of compensation, even if they had to ask for the same.
They however, pointed out that they get proper water supply to grow their crops.
