PANJIM, JULY 19
Since July 2007, the State government has constituted 1423 committees of which, 774 have never met. This interesting piece of information was revealed during Question Hour on Monday as Opposition sought to know whether working of those committees is monitored.
Mapusa MLA, Francis D’Souza during “Question Hour” brought out this issue saying though 1423 committees have been constituted since July, 2007, 774 committees have never met.
He questioned the purpose of having so many committees if they are not monitored.
At this point Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar asked Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat whether he was aware how many committees were chaired by him.
“You are chairman of 25 committees and chief secretary heads about 16 committees”, Parrikar replied quickly as Kamat kept mum.
He also sought to know whether functioning of those committees was monitored. “But don’t appoint another committee to just to monitor those committees”, he remarked.
Of the 222 Government notified committees 32 committees have never met, he pointed. There are 196 statutory committees.
Digambar Kamat said, most of these were village committees whereas Speaker Pratapsing Rane suggested that the Government should fix a time-frame for committees.
