Goa girls unlucky

Goa U-19 girls narrowly missed on qualifying for the quarter-finals of 9th Junior Nationals at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh after losing on goal difference.
Goa defeated Kerala 3-1 but in the other tie, Sikkim defeated Himachal Pradesh 30-0 to put paid to Goa’s hopes.
Sikkim as well as Goa finished with seven points each, but Sikkim had a plus 34 goal difference to Goa’s plus 26.
Goa opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Valerie Cardoza. Cassandra Fernandes doubled the lead eight minutes later.
Captain Stessi Cardoza scored for the third game in succession in the 60th minute.
The match was delayed by one hour due to the heavy rain.
Goa coach Maymol Rocky stated, “The girls played so well and won the match but in the end it was our bad luck losing on an inferior goal difference.”
