Murder accused get benefit of doubt

MARGAO: South Goa Addition District Sessions Court acquitted, on benefit of doubt, accused Hillary Travasso from Vasco, Paresh Prajapathi from Gujarat and Kran Mahazjan of Karnataka, who were charged for murder under sections 364 and 302 read with 34 of IPC.

MARGAO: South Goa Addition District Sessions Court acquitted, on benefit of doubt, accused Hillary Travasso from Vasco, Paresh Prajapathi from Gujarat and Kran Mahazjan of Karnataka, who were charged for murder under sections 364 and 302 read with 34 of IPC. 

The accused were represented by Advocates Julius Gomes, Ignatius Dias and Peter Fernandes before the court.

It was the case of the prosecution that on February 21, 2010 at about 9 pm, the three accused, with common intention, abducted the deceased, L Gopal from behind Mormugao Municipal Council garbage plant, at Sada, Vasco on February 21, 2010, exactly three years ago. The three were further accused of thereafter taking  him to an unknown destination, and assaulting him with a rubble stone hit on his head and face causing injuries that led to his death. 

The prosecution examined 13 witnesses in favour of the case, including the investigating officer who probed the abduction and murder.

The ourt however, released the three accused as guilt of the three and their involvement in the crime could not be proved beyond reasonable doubt, thus earning them their freedom.
