PANJIM: The High Court on Wednesday, did not grant interim relief to traditional shack owners while admitting a writ petition filed by Traditional Goan Shack Operators Association challenging the Shack Policy 2013-16.
Thus this can be construed as a green signal for the Tourism department to allot shacks based on the criteria it proposed to adopt this year. The TGSOA had moved the Court two weeks ago after it disputed the allotment of shacks based on the 90:10 pattern, which gave preference to experience in the allotment process.

experience of more than three years and 10 per cent having less than three years experience and for newcomers.
The petitioners had also sought clarity on the method being adopted by the Tourism department for allotment pointing out that the policy nowhere mentions that the process is intended to be carried out by draw of lots.
The Court, we are told, was informed Wednesday that the process of allotment would be done through draw of lots.
As many as 350 shacks are proposed to be allotted this year through draw of lots for a period of three years.
Meanwhile, the Shack Owners Welfare Society has also filed a counter petition in Court.
