VASCO: Angry at the inordinate and unexplained delay on the part of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) to disburse the workers’ salaries, the Goa Municipal Employees Association (GMEA) has issued a strike notice to MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik on Thursday.
According to information, 400-odd municipal workers have threatened to go on strike if their salary for May is not paid by June 10.
GMEA stated that around 250 employees and 150 daily wage workers had not received their May salary, and such a delay has become a regular phenomenon, which has upset the union members.
Meanwhile, when contacted, CO Naik said that initially there was a shortage of funds, but after recovering some arrears, a provision had been made to disburse the salaries by June 10.
