PANJIM: A 19-year-old female job seeker from Mumbai was allegedly raped by her friend’s boyfriend at a rented apartment in St Inez, on the night of March 20.
Accused Ramnivas Grover alias Rocky, a resident of Santa Cruz was arrested Sunday night for the offence and remanded to seven days police custody for interrogation.
The victim arrived in Goa with her friend Heena on February 21 in search of a job. The duo boarded a train at Mumbai for Goa but alighted at Sawantwadi from where Rocky picked them up and drove them to Goa in a car, the complaint states.
Police said the girls worked at a beauty parlour in Mumbai until the victim’s friend joined a call centre here. “The victim’s friend suggested to her to seek employment in Goa… She appeared for a job interview at a starred resort but since she did not have computer knowledge, she was probably not considered for it. She then joined a computer course in Panjim,” disclosed a senior police officer.
The girls, who were lodged at a hotel for a day, rented out an apartment in St Inez on monthly payment of Rs 11,000. However, Heena returned to Mumbai on March 16 quitting her job in Goa, the officer said. It was since then the accused began troubling the victim demanding the rent.
“The victim requested time to pay the rent till she got a job. On March 20, he allegedly trespassed into her rented flat, and then assaulted and raped her after tying her to the bed. He also threatened her with dire consequences, if she disclosed the fact to anybody,” the officer said quoting from the complaint copy.
