PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has asked the Margao Municipal Council to take steps to make the kabrastan (burial ground) operational.
During the hearing of a writ petition, the Margao Municipal Council informed the High Court that the kabrastan could not be made operational since the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) had found that the land was a hilly area and had a steep gradient. Following this, the High Court has now asked the SGPDA member secretary to explain with details which and how much of the total area was hilly.
The Margao Municipal Council had acquired about 30,000 sq mts of land on the Sonsoddo hillock for the construction of a kabrastan about a decade ago.
