BICHOLIM: Reshma Nilu Gawas, a 24-year-old woman from Chandel Pernem, is feared to have drowned in Bicholim River.
A missing complaint to this effect was lodged by her brother at Pernem police station on July 16. According to Bicholim police, on July 16, locals from Bicholim had spotted a wallet, an umbrella and footwear lying near Ganesh immersion footsteps at Bicholim walking track which is adjacent to Bicholim River.
On getting the information, police rushed to the spot and searched the place with the help of Bicholim firemen, but could not trace the body.
Since on the very same day Reshma had gone missing, the Bicholim police called relatives of Reshma for identification of the wallet which had some prescription indicating that it belonged to the missing woman. Her brother and sister-in-law identified the wallet as belonging to Reshma.
However, Bicholim PI Filomeno Costa said that until they recover the body they cannot say whether the woman has drowned or gone somewhere.
The woman was working at an industrial unit at Karaswada Industrial Estate in Mapusa and did not return home on Tuesday.
