CURCHOREM: Hundreds of revelers thronged Curchorem to catch a glimpse of the carnival float parade, which was flagged off near the railway station and culminated at the Kadamba bus stand after wending its way through the market on Monday evening.
The parade, which was organized by Centro Social Anjo Custodio (CSAC) in association with Goa Tourism and the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC), was flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza in the presence of GTDC Chairman and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai, and Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, among others.
The roles of King and Queen Momo were played by Raju Naik and Bina Naik. Around 14 professional floats, besides local floats, took part in the parade. ‘Uxichem Ghod’ from Quepem was the centre of attraction in the traditional category.
Besides ‘Goencho Manddo’, another float showcasing the coconut tree and grasshoppers with the theme “Protect Goa’s Beautiful Nature from Deadly Grasshoppers” was part of the parade. There were other floats depicting Goan tradition and conveying public interest messages in the traditional, club/institution, family, clown/joker, fun/junk car rally categories.
Later, a Konkani musical show featuring Seby de Diwar, Anicet, Willy, Luiza, Leslie, Bushka with Music of Cloud Nine, followed by a performance by DJ Ashnol, was held at the KTC bus stand.
