PORVORIM: Almost a decade after ex-Chief Minister Late Manohar Parrikar took a significant administrative decision to introduce a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) for government employees; his successor Dr Pramod Sawant followed the footstep.
In his Budget 2022-23, Sawant announced VRS for the government employees who wish to retire from the service. While the details of the scheme will be worked out shortly, a budgetary provision of Rs 10 crore has been made for its implementation.
Sawant has also proposed to cover all the senior cadre officers under Goa Government Life Insurance Policy.
Parrikar had in his Budget 2012-13 proposed VRS for the employees who wish to retire after completing 15 years in service and had announced to give them full pension on their existing pay and full gratuity.
