MARGAO: Expressing happiness over increasing the area under cultivation in the State, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant alias Babu Kavlekar on Saturday disclosed that the Agriculture Department is issuing Krishi Cards to all the cultivators even if they are not the owners of the land.
Speaking at the Krishi Mela at Nuvem, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “It was observed that the land owner takes the subsidy and other benefits without passing them to the cultivator who has to struggle.”
“Now Krishi Cards will be issued to the cultivators even if they are not the owners of the land,” he said while explaining that such cultivators will not be able to avail of subsidy for fencing and digging a well.
He congratulated the farmers from Nuvem, who had now gone in for a third crop of lentils and watermelons after harvesting two crops of paddy.
“This should be replicated at other places too. It was possible in Nuvem because of MLA Wilfred alias Babashan D’Sa is taking keen interest in agriculture,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.
Kavlekar also disclosed that Agriculture Department has made payment at source and hence the farmer directly pays the subsidised amount to the seller while the balance which is the subsidy amount is paid by the department to the seller.
“This year we sold 1.5 lakh cashew saplings through this mean where the farmer had to pay only Rs 15 per sapling while the balance amount of Rs 45 was paid to the vendor directly by the department,” Kavlekar stated.
