PANJIM: Thirty retired primary and high school teachers, who had superannuated over two years back, are waiting for release of their pension which has been held back, since then, by the Directorate of Accounts.
The teachers have now approached Chief Minister’s Office with their grievance. CMO has assured to look into the matter at the earliest.
Sources in the Education Department confirm that despite several reminders, the Accounts Department is giving technical excuses for non release of the payment.
“It is for more than two years that they have been visiting the department enquiring about their pension and have even communicated to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s office,” sources said.
Sources said that Sawant has directed his office to coordinate with Accounts Department and ensure that the payments are released at the earliest.
When tried to contact, Director Accounts Prakash Pereira remained unavailable for the comments.
Meanwhile, four Goa University grade ‘IV’ employees, who retired last year, are still waiting for their pension while 19 additional employees are in the pipeline to superannuate.
It is understood that laxity on the part of administrative officer in the University has held back their pension.
“The administrative officer has been acting lethargic hence the files have been held back,” one of the staffers said.
