Though the Manohar International Airport Mopa started commercial operations on January 5, 2023, Pednekars are still grounded. The Yellow Black taxi operators who were promised a taxi counter at the Mopa airport have still not been granted their wish. The Mopa airport was trumpeted as having created jobs for Pednekars. This has not become a reality for all Pednekars, many of whom have sacrificed their land for the Mopa airport.
Taximen from Pernem began their protest outside the Government Administrative Building Pernem on Tuesday, February 14. They are demanding for a Yellow Black taxi counter or blue cab counter at the Mopa airport, thus reclaiming their right to jobs, in wake of sacrificing land for Mopa. Before starting the protest the taximen took the blessings of Goddess Bhagwati at Pernem.
