PANJIM: The Porvorim police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against former deputy chief minister and Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai, former minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and 80 others for allegedly blocking the National Highway at Porvorim during a protest held on Friday.
Congress Women Wing’s President Pratima Coutinho, GFP’s Durgadas Kamat, and activists joining the protest are also named in the FIR registered under Sections 143 (Unlawful Assembly), 341 (Wrongful Restraint), 336 (Endangering Life and Personal Safety of Others) read with 149 (Every Member of an Unlawful Assembly Guilty of the Offense Committed in Prosecution of Common Object) of Indian Penal Code and Section 8(b) of the NH Act.
Police sources said that all those identified in the FIR will be summoned for investigation even as video footage of the protest is also being examined for the purpose of the probe.
