PANJIM: The 68-year-old woman, who died while in quarantine at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) for possible exposure to novel coronavirus, tested negative.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the lady, who was quarantined for suspected COVID-19, died due to COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and not due to coronavirus.

“Her reports have tested negative for the virus,” Sawant said adding ‘if she had to die due to the virus then we would not have handed over her body to her family members’.
Chief Minister also appealed to the media not to spread false news with regards to death of the old lady by relating it to COVID-19.
Earlier in the day, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the victim cannot be called a COVID-19 patient yet as her test reports are yet to come.
“She had been isolated because she showed symptoms of coronavirus infection. Her samples had been sent for test. The woman suffered from respiratory distress, diagnosed with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) infective exacerbation and was shifted to the isolation ward,” he said.
Goa has so far reported five positive cases of coronavirus.
