PANJIM: Drishti Lifesaving Services Pvt Ltd has assured full support to Goa Police in keeping the coast safe from criminal activities. After a meeting with North District police earlier last month, Drishti officials interacted with South Goa police to discuss ways to improve interaction, communication and coordination between the two agencies and work on an effective mechanism to keep the coast safe.
“With the summer holidays approaching, beaches will witness a larger number of visitors. We have assured full cooperation of the team with the Goa Police in an effort to offer a wholesome enjoyable experience to visitors to the beach and to strengthen security measures along the coast,” company’s GM (Operations) P N Pandey said.
The State Police had requested the assistance of lifeguards to stay vigilant and aid police to crack down on narcotics and other illegal activity along the coastal belt by providing necessary inputs. It has also sought support in collecting information on suspicious interaction of locals with tourists and passing on the information including photographs to the police.
“As a preventive measure, lifeguards can assist the police by collecting information on suspicious interaction of locals with tourists and clandestine activity and passing on the information including photographs to the police. The police and Drishti lifeguards have joined hands in an effort to save lives and increase the safety and security at the beaches,” DySP Dinraj Govekar said.
Discussions included procedures to report and handle casualties, assistance from police to handle aggressive tourists on the beaches and deployment of additional policemen and lifeguards at some of the popular beaches across the entire stretch that witnesses an increasing inflow of visitors over weekends and holidays.
