Nadia case: NCP for speedy probe

Offering full support to the controversial former tourism minister Mickky Pacheco, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said it was unhappy with the ‘slow investigation’ carried out by Crime Branch in the Nadia Torrado death case.
Party President Jose Philip D’Souza in his letter to Chief Minster Digambar Kamat has sought his attention for a speedy probe.
“We are unhappy with the case investigation in the death of Nadia Torrado as it is moving at snail’s pace. I have written to the chief minister not to drag the probe”, he said at a function to welcome the entry of nine fresh members into their party fold.
Besides, the NCP president said it is still awaiting a reply from the chief minister on reassigning the Planning Board vice-chairmanship to NCP. The position is currently with the former NCP president Wilfred D’Souza.
The matter, he further said, is also discussed with the senior Congress leader B K Hariprasad and it was expecting a positive reply.
Meanwhile, the fresh faces, ex-MLA Shrikant Malik, his wife and ex-Zilla Parishad member Anjali Malik, Albert D’Sa, Balkrishna Prabhudesai, Alter Gomes, Subhash, Kinalker, Dattaram Dhaimodkar, Sunil Moraskar and Devendra Desai were formally inducted at the NCP head office in the city.
Speaking at the function, party member Sangeeta Parab strongly opined to raise its MLA seats from three to 30, an opinion which was echoed by other members as well.
Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar remarked the fresh move would strengthen the party even more to work at the grass root level and support poor people.
One among the new members, Albert criticized the functioning of Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party and particularly Navelim MLA and PWD Minister Churchill Alemao of being selfish.
