Caste certificates to be made permanent

Amid criticism from the Opposition the Chief Minister Digamabar Kamat today announced that the caste certificates once issued would be permanent and would require no renewals.
Presently, the caste certificates issued by the deputy collectors are valid for one year and had to be renewed annually.
The Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar and the Fatorda legislator pointed out that the caste of a person does not change every year. “This is unnecessary burden on the people to renew the certificate by completing the formalities every year,” they said.
They said that the certificates are required to be changed due to the creamy layer in the caste.
“For that only the income certificate can be changed every year,” they stated.
Following this, the chief minister assured that henceforth the people will not be required to renew the certificate every year.
“The caste certificate will be permanent once issued while the income certificate will be valid only for one year,” he stated.
