SANGUEM: A resident of Tony Nagar, Sanvordem has expressed fears that his house would collapse if the authorities fail to take timely action to construct a retaining wall by the side of his house.
The house owner Ramkrishna Gaonkar informed that due to heavy rains in the past few days, the water flow in the stream existing by the side of his house led to the flow of huge quantity of mud from the side walls of his house.
The water flow almost washed off the side walls of his house and there is every possibility that the house could collapse if no preventive action is taken by the authorities.
Gaonkar informed that earlier the water flow in the stream was restricted. However, with the passage of time and with the number of houses on both sides of the stream increasing, the flow of water has increased considerably and this caused damage to the side walls of his residential house.
Gaonkar informed that some five years back, the panchayat had undertaken the construction work of the retaining wall of the major portion along the streeam. However, a short portion from the residential house of Gaonkar was left incomplete. The construction of the retaining wall along the remaining portion of the stream would bring a huge relief to some five houses in the locality, claimed Gaonkar.
Meanwhile, Sanvordem Sarpanch Sandip Pawaskar informed that the panchayat had already sent the proposal for the construction of the remaining portion of the retaining wall to the PWD. Pawaskar informed that the department has even got the estimate done and only tender is left to be released. The work of the construction of the remaining portion of the retaining wall would be undertaken soon after the monsoons, added Pawaskar.
He however assured preventive measures for the safety of the residents in the affected area pending the construction of the retaining wall.
