PANJIM: In the run up to the new academic year, the Congress minority cell has accused the Laxmikant Parsekar government of denying permission for new schools and classes of minority institutions.
The party said that 15 fresh proposals submitted to Education Department have been rejected on flimsy grounds. The institutions had not sought grants though they have Urdu and Konkani as the medium of instruction (MoI).
Congress Goa Minority Cell Chairman Urfan Mulla said students of minority communities are not able to join prominent educational institutions and are forced to get admitted in government schools, where the standard is not up to the mark.
“Minority institutions have come forward to provide good education but the proposals have been rejected by Education Department,” he said.
Millat Education’s proposal to start schools at Vasco, Bicholim and Fatorda, Jamia Mukbulia’s proposal to start school at Ponda, National High School’s application to start new class and Sahara Institution’s proposal to start schools at Fatorda and Chimbel were among those rejected by the Education department.
“In Salcete over 150 students are on waiting list for primary education in prominent schools. Most minority students are enrolled in government primary school. Parents willing to send their children to prominent schools are demoralized because they are not getting admissions” he said.
