PANJIM: Goan Football Club scored a narrow 1-0 win over Salgaocar Football Club in the Goa Football Association’s Taca Goa League match played at Duler Stadium, on Sunday.
The teams displayed a classic brand of football from the start as they tried to get ahead of the rival team.
The Green Brigade’s marshalled by Seiwyn Miranda managed to get a couple of attacks in the rival territory however Clifford Miranda’s side were undeterred by the threats.
Goan FC side led by India U-19 player Princeton Rebello re-grouped and gave a fight with Kingslee Fernandes trying to break past the Salgaocar defence.
The first half ended in a goalless draw as neither of the teams to find the breakthrough.
Post resumption, Goan FC came back stronger and put up an excellent show however Salgaocar FC held on to their defence line.
It was only in the 89th minute that Goan FC managed to break the deadlock though Veegan Fernandes’ strike, as he made it 1-0 at full-time.
Meanwhile, Kevnem Sports Club edged past Aivao United Football Club 2-1, In the GFA’s Third Division League (Ilhas Zone), match played at Agassaim ground.
