PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party legislators on Tuesday hailed the Manohar Parrikar led government for presenting a ‘well balanced’ and ‘people-friendly’ Budget 2013-14 despite several financial hardships faced due to suspension of mining activities in the State.
Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai welcoming the State Budget, praising the government for making a strong effort in presenting a Budget with major focus on development of the agricultural sector. “Even as the uncertainty continues to loom large over resumption of mining activities, government took courage to present a five figure budget with such a big plan size. Government lost much of its revenue due to stoppage of mining activities,” he said.
Phaldessai presumed that if mining restarts at the earliest, the government would have enough funds in hand to implement the Budget without further hardships. “Despite facing financial problems, government implemented almost 60 to 65 percent of its promises made in previous Budget and for that government needs to be congratulated,” he said.
The BJP MLA was speaking while participating in a general discussion on State Budget 2013-14. He was supported by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, who praised the government for presenting a development oriented Budget. “It’s a people friendly budget which talks about development of State,” Lobo stated.
Welcoming the State government’s move to revive the agricultural sector, Lobo called for setting up an agriculture college in the State to attract more youth towards the sector.
He also welcomed the government’s move to extend the fishing ban from 45 to 75 days and an entry toll for vehicles. He said that with the introduction of an investment policy, Goa can be a model state for industrial development.
