As we go through life, we rarely think about the words we speak or the actions we perform. Take for example the numerous instances of young people reacting drastically to unkind word said by parents, classmates and colleagues in offices and in Parliament with un-parliamentary words. Yes, words can break hearts, damage peace of mind and cause irreparable harm to emotional health. Therefore, what we say or write should be to improve relationships, clear any misunderstandings, or perhaps, even suggest positive solutions to problems rather than promote problematic tendencies. The Bible says that in eternity we will be judged by the very words that we have spoken while on this earth. (Mt.12:36-37).
Ragging can be physical, causing hurt or verbal torture by teasing tongues, to humiliate the individual, which could result in serious injury or suicide of weak-willed persons. Therefore, many lay persons say that the origin of ragging in colleges has its beginning in schools and homes.

In the song, “Kitem kellem go bai; teo moscoreo re pai”. (What have you done girl? Father those are jokes).It is a trio with singers, Rom Tony, Felcy, Jt. Rod; acted by comedian Domnic, Mini Mario, Felcy. Here the father neglects the problem faced by his daughter saying that the trouble she faces is mere fun. He suggests to bear, the jokes as, boys are like that. He (father) ignores daughter’s difficult situation as he is more concerned in going for a vacation at his brother’s place in Bombay. So, his suggestion, to put up with the fun, takes the effect, as ‘parental permission’ to his daughter. So, the girl bears the badly behaved boy’s advances. After the march of time of one year, father returns from his leisure vacation. He gets the shock with the discovery that his daughter is pregnant. The daughter puts the blame on his father’s carelessness saying: “teo moscoreo pai; tuvem sonsunk zai” (father it is fun, you have to bear it); and the naughty boy pleads with the girl’s father to fix the nuptials early.
Similarly, in a family if a wife complains to her husband about the harassment by dominating mother-in-law (MIL), her husband, cares little for what goes on in the house. Perhaps his way of thinking is that all daughters-in-laws (DIL) should adjust with his MIL. The effect of conflict between MIL and DIL often leads to separation of “what God has joined.”
Authorities in some school take mischief of students lightly. But, it becomes very upsetting for the delicate victim to bear the effect of indiscipline, when there is no action from authorities. So sometimes it ends with the victim’s suicide.
Some say that such carelessness makes the authority guilty, for his act of omission of not doing the groundwork of maintaining discipline in the school or office. Such unruly students turn raggers in college. Yes, anyone who commits an act that “annoys” a person is guilty of hurting the individual and perhaps, can even be taken to court.
May be, such indiscipline is due to mental disorder present in a few of the senior students or a very bad quality of upbringing in a family. Such behaviour of taking advantage of a)nother individual and seeing the victim in pain shows the evil nature of the persecutor.
Words can make or break a person emotionally. So use your words cautiously.
