Goa’s special status to be discussed, Ayodhya not on the cards

PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party has not ruled out the possibility of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi being appointed as BJP’s 2014 poll campaign in-charge, at their upcoming national executive meeting which will take place in Goa on June 8-9.
Addressing a press conference, BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that along with the issue of Modi likely appointment as in-charge of poll campaign, there are many issues on the agenda such as the price rise, internal security, corruption and poll strategies which would be discussed during the meeting.
“Modi is a most popular leader not only for BJP but across the country. With his ideology, he has a strong appeal in the country,” Naqvi said responding to a question.
While praising state Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for his effective leadership, Naqvi said ‘the resolution with regard to the Special Status for Goa would also be discussed during the meeting’.
Naqvi termed Congress led UPA government tenure at the center as Indian Corruption League (ICL), with corruption and conspiracy as the only achievements of the government.
He said that the national executive chaired by President Rajnath Singh would discuss about party’s political strategies ahead of assembly elections in six states and Lok Sabha polls, he estimated are likely to held this year itself.
Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram would be going to the polls this year.
However, the crucial Ayodhya issue has been set-aside by the party for its national executive.
Naqvi said that the issue of Ayodha is very much on the agenda of the party, but it has not been considered as a priority while chalking out strategy for forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The party vice-president said that the national office bearers meeting, scheduled on June 7, will discuss on the agenda for the national executive.
Around 350 delegates including senior party leaders such as L K Advani, Modi, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jatley, Nitin Gadkari among others would be attending the meeting.
The national executive will be followed by workers convention on June 9 evening.
Nearly 250 national media persons is expected to come down to Goa to cover the three day meeting.
The meeting would be held at Hotel Marriot.
