Heritage site

The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) should be lauded for it’s efforts to restore the heritage clock tower atop the municipal market in the Port Town of Vasco. This was a long pending demand of heritage lovers in the state and the people of Vasco in general. The heritage clock happens to be the only one of it’s kind and was neglected for decades by successive municipal councils. As a result of this it was in imminent danger of collapsing which would have proved dangerous for the general public as the clock tower is situated in the crowded market-place.
However not only the structure on which the clock is mounted needs to be restored but the clock itself should be repaired so that it is in working condition. This will benefit the shop-keepers in the locality and the people in general who visit the market-place. The clock also needs to have proper lighting so that it can be viewed during the night as well. If possible an hourly chime could be added to the clock which will also benefit the general public.
Other heritage sites in the Port Town, specially, the Mormugao Fort also need to be restored by the authorities concerned. This will turn the Port Town into a tourist destination for heritage lovers from across the globe.
