MARGAO: There seems to be no end to the blame game in respect of the collapse of the Ruby Residency building at Canacona that claimed 31 lives on January 4 last.
While the Town and Country Planning department officials and Canacona municipal officials had in the past blamed each other for the approvals, Adv Surendra Desai, the lawyer representing arrested former Canacona Municipal Chief Officer Pradip Naik on Friday told the court that the building collapse was an act of God.
Special Public Prosecutor, Adv Rajiv Gomes later drew attention of the Special Judge, Nutan Sardesai to the submission made by the defence lawyer that the building collapse was an act of God. “These officials have blamed anyone and everyone for the permissions and licenses granted for the Ruby Residency project. And, now they are attributing the collapse as an act of God”, Adv Gomes told the court.
