The Maina Curtorim police are bracing up to take alleged serial killer Mahanand Naik in their custody on Tuesday in connection with the Deepali Jotkar murder case.
The police have approached the court to take the serial killer in their custody to investigate his role in the mysterious death of Deepali, a resident of Davorlim.
Accused Mahanand had allegedly told the Ponda police that he had killed Deepali and later dumped her body at an isolated place at Fatorpa. While the Cuncolim police had initially registered a case of unnatural death in the case, the Maina Curtorim police registered a case of murder after the parents of the deceased girl along with Bailancho Ekvott president Auda Viegas lodged a complained that Deepali was kidnapped by the accused before her mysterious disappearance.
The Cuncolim police, which had failed to send the viscera of the deceased girl for chemical analysis for the last two years, have since handed it over to the Maina Curtorim police. The viscera will be sent to Kolkata for DNA testing to ascertain whether the body found at Fatorpa was indeed that of Deepali or not.
