Living in the truth of who you are

Navigating through the vistas of life can occasionally leave you feeling high and dry. From personal commitments to social obligations we are constantly engaged in constant communications delivering our skills and services and in turn being remunerated for it. To counteract the humdrum lifestyle we live, there are myriad options available at our disposal. Choosing the right one that suits our interests can boost our confidence.
Personal commitments call for certain expected standards. When we deviate from them we are deprecated. People out of fear hold on because of the social stigma that would accompany it. At times we get caught up in wanting to appease the wishes of our elders and also simultaneously have it our way. It can leave you in a quandary and stifle your sense of creativity. Learning to say no can be a gigantic task in itself especially if you have been tolerating and allowing people to trample on your generosity. You might feel guilty initially for breaking the stereotype but it’s important to hold on to your integrity. Establishing boundaries and letting people stay within the confines of it is mandatory. It isn’t about building walls but rather setting parameters that enable us to allow, accommodate and tolerate behaviours. The so called intruders might not succumb easily to the big blow of having their known friendships and relationships come to a standstill. Instead they might admonish you and blow off steam.
Following your own terms, doesn’t necessarily define your rigid disposition. But people need to understand that your opinions do count and that you too have a right to live a dignified life. We have become immune to having the acceptance of our kind and cannot withstand rejection. That justifies why we feel immensely gratified when the number of likes on our social media chats receives a standing ovation. It is a good thing to receive acknowledgement but then the problem starts when we constantly rely on external validation.
Feeling comfortable in one’s own skin requires courage. How many of us are aware of our self worth? Instead we give permission to others by seeking their opinions and approval in matters that are intimate to our survival. It’s mandatory to firstly forge a relationship with ourselves thereby acknowledging our shortcomings and using that as a catalyst to make amends. Its noteworthy mentioning that when our emotions are exhausted we should never trust ourselves. The people that enter into our lives mirror our qualities and interests thereby also reflecting the broken pieces that we hide in the shadows of our sub consciousness. Knowing oneself has less to do with the position that you are in at the moment or the kind of roles that you exhibit in society. Its about becoming aware of the things that make us tick like the things that give us bliss, satisfaction and also about the things that drag us down in the doldrums leaving us feeling inadequate.
