MAPUSA: Expressing shock over the government’s approval to new shack policy 2019 by not taking them into confidence, the Traditional Shack Owners’ Association of Goa has requested the State to review its decision.
Association President Manuel Cardozo said this new policy appears to be arbitrary to most members.
“It would be sad if this policy is implemented as it would monopolise the beach to the benefit a few selected shack owners. The government’s latest policy seems to be reintroducing the earlier category system based on the experience which was challenged in 2009. The High Court had instructed the government that a person having one year and above experience should be treated at par with the others,” said Cardozo.
“For last 10 years there was no problem and now it looks like the government is compelling the shack owners to seek relief once again through the court of law. Hence, the government will be accountable and responsible for loss in delay or inconvenience resulting from this to the stakeholders,” he added.
From the reports published in some sections of the media on Monday, it looks like the government has not considered newcomers, which is the sole base clause for drafting the shack policy for the unemployed youth as they are totally left out.
