MAPUSA: Guirim YCSC scored a narrow 1-0 win over Friends XI, Vaddem in the GFA’s 3rd Division League match played at Duler ground, here, on Monday.
The all-important goal was scored in the 8th minute for Guirim when Friends keeper Abhijit Volvoikar made a mess of Abraham Fernandes strike to find James Fernandes, who wasted no time in slotting the ball into the goal, 1-0.
Guirim could have consolidated their lead but poor finishing in front of the goal let them down with first Suhas Kambli shooting wide while James failed to find the net with only Friends XI keeper to beat.
At Chapora ground, Peddem Bomm SC recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Sai Avtar. Kalpesh Gadekar scored the lone goal of the match in the 35th minute.
At Assonora ground, Goan Warriors SC thumped FC Sanquelim 8-0. Craig Menezes was the star player for the winners as he scored five goals. Faizal Shaikh, Chetan and an Ajay’s own goal took the tally to 8-0
PVC Association gained walkover after Nerul SC failed to report at the venue at Anjuna.
At Chandor Church ground, Uguem Rising Club suffered yet another 0-4 defeat at the hands of St Anthony’s SC, Assolda. Sidroy Vaz scored a brace for the winners while Wilson Fernandes and Cajitan Fernandes were the other goal scorers for the winning side.
