MAPUSA: Guirim YCSC managed to squeeze past Benny XI Sports Club 3-2 in the GFA’s 3rd Division League, played at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.
At the breather the teams were locked 2-2.
It was in the 9th minute Benny keeper Francis Dias failed to collect the ball cleanly where James Fernandes tapped the ball into the goal to give his side the lead.
It did not take long for Guirim to doubled their lead where in the 14th minute a hot-blooded shot by veteran Tome Alvares took deflection of the leg of Benny’s Shubham to see the ball roll into the goal to make it 2-0.
Benny players exerted pressure and scored more two goals in the 21st and 39th minutes through Manthan Parwar’s placement and Nikesh giving finishing touches to a neat pass from medio Oswin Goveia to make it 2-2.
On resumption of play, in the 64th minute, Guirim scored the match-winner when a shot corner by Abrahim saw Tome float the ball to Suhas Kambli who headed the ball into the goal to make it 3-2.
Guirim almost made it 4-2, but Benny’s Nikesh brought a goal-line save off a header from James Fernandes.
