VASCO: A house in New Vaddem, Vasco, belonging to Shiva Kesavulu Devarakonda, caught fire on Thursday evening, with residents suspecting a short circuit as the cause. Noone was hurt in the blaze.

Neighbours discovered the fire when smoke began billowing from the house, whose occupants were away at the time. They quickly alerted the fire department and electricity authorities. Locals attempted to contain the blaze using water from their homes, but the fire escalated into an inferno, spreading rapidly through the structure.
Vasco fire station in-charge Dilip Bicholkar said the department received the emergency call at around 6:30 p.m. “We responded immediately but faced challenges reaching the site due to vehicles parked on the narrow road,” Bicholkar explained. “We urge residents to avoid parking on narrow streets to ensure access for emergency vehicles.” Despite the delay, firefighters managed to control the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties. Preliminary estimates place the damages at approximately Rs 4 lakh. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials have urged residents to exercise caution with electrical connections and ensure clear access for emergency services.
