MARGAO: History Lovers Group on Sunday organised a Chandor Heritage Trip in the historic village of Chandor that was the capital of the Kadamba dynasty in the 11th century. Around 15 people participated in the walk with some of them being from the village itself.
The participants first went around Our Lady of Bethlehem church looking at the heritage items existing there and then visited the Chapel dedicated to St Tiago at Cotta that was reconstructed in 1783. The visitors also saw the Sati stone lying near the temple.
They then visited the site where lie the ruins of the 11th century temple with the broken nandi being the only visible monument of the temple. The visitors then had a look at the existing wall of the erstwhile Kadamba fort.
The visitors were then given a brief history of Kushawati river that forms a boundary of the village as they walked along its banks by Yogesh of the History Lovers Group.
