The beach lifeguards are awaiting the proceedings of the High Court of Bombay
at Goa in a petition filed by Drishti Lifesaving Services seeking the court’s intervention
to restrain the former from striking work. The matter is set to come up for
hearing on Wednesday. The State government is expected to be submit its reply
on this day.
The
recruiting agency had earlier this month approached the High Court after
lifeguards, under the banner of All India Trade Union Congress, had resolved to
boycott work once every month till the government fulfils their demands.

The labour union alleged that the affected lifeguards had
withdrawn their indefinite strike on January 13, 2016 after the government, on a
public platform, had assured to fulfill their promises. With no relief,
the lifeguards had planned to strike work on Saturday and Sunday. To restrain
them from going ahead with the strike, Drishti had knocked on the doors of the
court.
“Our further course of action
will be decided based on the government’s reply on Wednesday,” AITUC Convener
Suhas Naik said speaking to Herald.
He, however, expressed
disappointment that even after the first hearing held on April 7, neither Chief
Minister Laxmikant Parsekar nor Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar have bothered
to resolve the matter. “As there is no out of court settlement till date we are
relying on the court hearing,” he added.
The lifeguards’ demands
include regularization of their services, hike in pay packages and
reinstatement of sacked employees.
