Eighteen councillors were sworn in as chairpersons and vice chairpersons of nine municipalities on Thursday. They were amongst 100 councillors who were administered their oath of office. Women have taken over the top posts in Canacona, Cuncolim and Margao, and are deputies in Canacona, Curchorem and Mapusa. The chairpersons and vice chairpersons were elected unopposed in Bicholim, Curchorem, Mapusa, Margao, and Valpoi. Margao and Bicholim held their elections on Wednesday, while the other municipalities followed suit a day later.
The elected chairpersons and vice chairpersons are: Satish Gaonkar and Ajit Birje (Bicholim), Prathana Gaonkar and Savita Dhuri (Canacona), Lavita Mascarenhas and Mario Moraes (Cuncolim), Vishwas Pandu Sawant and Pradnya Naik (Curchorem), Sandeep Falari and Marlyn D’Souza (Mapusa), Babita Angle and Dorris Texeira (Margao), Deepak Naik and Shashikant Parab (Mormugao), Filu D’Costa and Padi Paulo Fernandes (Quepem), and Ramdas Shirodkar and Sahazin Shaikh (Valpoi).
