SATTARI: Shel Melauli locals on Sunday reiterated their demand that the Government should give them the ownership of Alvara, Kumeri and other land in “Class A” category.
Around 500 villagers were present for the meeting held to discuss the land ownership rights.

“Only 12 landlords in Sattari taluka possess ownership rights while the remaining locals have no ownership rights. These landlords are politicians having close connections with other leaders,” the locals claimed.
A villager claimed that only the people from the high caste in the taluka possess the ownership rights.
“We demand that the Government should pass a law in the Assembly with regards to land ownership rights and give the ownership of rights to the villagers,” Adv Ganpat Gaonkar demanded.
“The landlords in Sattari taluka, who are active in politics, have taken the land ownership,” Dashrath Mandrekar, another villager alleged.
“Both Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant are partners in IIT project as they will get a huge amount if the IIT project comes up in Melauli,” claimed GPCC president Girish Chodankar.
“Pratapsingh Rane had told me that he does not want the IIT project in Melauli. Senior Rane supports the villagers in their protest against the project,” Chodankar claimed.
Girish said, “Rane also informed me that there are several government spaces in Goa. The government could shift this IIT project at one of these spots.”
