Car falls into a canal, lucky escape for Areal local

CURCHOREM: A resident of Sao Jose de Areal had a lucky escape when his car reportedly fell into a canal behind the Quepem Police Station on Monday.

CURCHOREM: A resident of Sao Jose de Areal had a lucky escape when his car reportedly fell into a canal behind the Quepem Police Station on Monday.
According to Quepem police, Sunny Mascarenhas a resident of Sao Jose de Areal  was travelling in his Alto car from Sao Jose de Areal to Quepem to meet his relatives. When he reached the culvert near the police station at around 4.30 pm,  he lost control of the car and landed into an irrigation canal. “Sunny escaped with minor injuries and we shifted him at Hospicio Hospital, Margao in a 108 ambulance,” police said.
Later the car was removed from the canal with the help of the crane. Police R G Gaonkar, who conducted the panchanama, is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, President of the Quepem Citizens’ Committee Evangelisto D’Costa informed that he had requested the Quepem PWD office requesting them to widen the culvert near the police station in 2014.
“Taking cognizance of my letter, the assistant engineer in turn wrote letter to the executive engineer, Water Resources Department, Margao in February 2015 asking them to conduct a joint inspection of the site and to issue necessary No Objection Certificate to carry the work. But till date nothing has been progressed,” D’Costa informed. 
D’Costa urged the authorities to look into the matter and widen the culvert immediately.
